Loses Ed King

Former LYNYRD SKYNYRD guitarist ED KING is dead at 68, with cancer being the cause. KING was the co-writer of several of the group’s hits — including “Sweet Home Alabama.”

THE NEW YORK TIMES notes, "KING joined the band in 1972 and played on its first three albums, "LYNYRD SKYNYRD (Pronounced Leh-nerd Skin-nerd)," "Second Helping" and "Nuthin’ Fancy". He is credited as a songwriter on several of the band’s songs, including "Saturday Night Special" and "Workin’ for MCA". His voice can be heard providing the opening "1-2-3" count on "Sweet Home Alabama".”
